Orbry Wet Room Flooring Installation

An Orbry wet room can be installed in almost any size or shape room, and on to most substrates – providing the correct installation method is used. Orbry wet room flooring is suitable for installation on timber, solid cement and screed floors. To create a stable and level floor in your wet room we recommend using Orbry Board tile backers, this also gives you the ideal surface to tile on to and provides an insulation layer for underfloor heating.

Orbry Board is a tile backer board reinforced with glass fibre which makes it both strong and lightweight. The top coat on both sides of the board is made of polymer-modified cement, making it the ideal surface for tiling. When fixing Orbry Board to floors a minimum thickness of 6mm is required for timber & concrete or cement, and 10mm on calcium sulphate screeds.

Installing Orbry Wet Room Flooring on Wooden Floors

  1. Check the wooden floor for any loose boards and fix any that you find.
  2. Lay the boards out in a broken bond pattern and cut any that need trimming to fit the floor, then remove.
  3. Spread a rapid-setting polymer modified cement based adhesive onto the floor using a 6-8mm notched trowel and lay the Orbry Boards into it.
  4. Mechanically fix the boards using stainless steel screws and tile backer board washers at 300mm centres.
  5. Use Orbry Waterproofing Tape and Sealing Compound at all joints between boards, around the shower tray, and where the wall and floor meet.

Installing Orbry Wet Room Flooring on Cement & Concrete Floors

  1. Make sure the floor is sound, flat and clear of any dust, debris or paint.
  2. Lay the boards out in a broken bond pattern and cut any that need trimming to fit the floor, then remove.
  3. Apply a suitable flexible cement based adhesive using a 10mm notched trowel and lay the boards into it, ensuring both the boards and sub floor are 100% in contact with the adhesive.
  4. Waterproof the joints with Orbry Waterproofing Tape and Sealing Compound – this should be used at all joints between boards, around the shower tray, and where the wall and floor meet.

Installing Orbry Wet Room Flooring on Calcium Sulphate Floors

  1. Check the substrate is sound, flat and clear of any dust, debris or paint.
  2. Lay the boards out in a broken bond pattern and cut any that need trimming to fit the floor, then remove.
  3. Drill through the boards and floor to a depth equal to the length of the Orbry Spanker Dowel using a 10mm drill bit.
  4. Insert the dowel into the hole and tap the securing pin until the board is held in place.
  5. Repeat, drilling additional holes every 300mm.
  6. Check all boards are level and then hammer in all fixing pins until the dowels are all securely fixed. Do not over-hammer the dowels or they will crush the boards.
  7. Waterproof joints with Orbry Waterproofing Tape and Sealing Compound, covering all joints between boards, around the tray and where the walls and floor meet.
